do it electronically, you convince the engine management that the air coming in is cold and it turns off the egr. needs 2X 12k ohm resistors to do. stops the intake manifold getting clogged full of crap

Positive note another mate picked one up the other day in 4x4 for 34K new. Not bad I thought.
My 2014 has an off switch for TC.

If you want more grunt the ECU chip is bloody great.

I don't know how I feel about TC. I have crossed some ground that I got stuck on few times in my old manual truck (flat, swampy wheel rutted like paddock) recently.
Was especially bad after a bit of rain.

But it was to a favorite whitebaiting spot and easy to recover yourself when and if I did get stuck.

Not sure if it was the auto trans or a combination of both the trans and TC in my latest truck but I have never come close to getting stuck across the same bit ground.

Truck still has the original shit tyres on it that have just done 40000km.

I had a deer run out in front of me on a gravel road that just had fresh gravel on it a few months ago.
It come out of a wee cutting on the side of the road at a great rate of knots.
I wasn't going that fast as I was on a windy section of it.

Swerved aggressively to miss the deer but clipped it's ass end and headed for the far ditch.
Turned into the skid a bit to correct and ended up rather quickly back in the center of the road. TC light flashing away.

Pretty sure I would have ended up in the ditch if I didn't have it.

I have a love/hate relationship with the traction control systems in 4wds too, the usual problem is trying to do sections where you need some momentum and the electronics are having a hissy fit that you are spinning the wheels trying to slow you down.

I don't know enough about TC.

I can turn it off but have just left it on.
If I am doing long sections of unsealed Rd I always put her in 4wd and I seem to get the indication light flash briefly every now and then.

Haven't had a bad experience with it yet but as I said I don't know that much about when to have it on or off.

TC,EBS,ESC,XYZ... all have their place. It is already doing it's stuff before you realise youre in the shit. When you want to play, or know you need momentum or wheel spin to get through, you've got time to switch it off. Where it saves your ass is when that deer runs out, or tourist is on your side of road. It maintains full control of vehicle traction and steering, provided you're not trying to beat the laws of physics or gravity

I have an early 2016 auto. Done 42k. Can't fault it for the money. Hasn't cost me a bean apart from servicing.
As said, just replace the tyres and you are made.

ive got a 2014 gls only really had one problem with it. Went to put 2 new tyres on the rear, the guys at the tyre shop put the new ones on the front and the old front ones on the rear. problem was the tyres had worn at different rates and there was 15mm difference between the 2. Every time we went around a sharp corner the stability/traction control detected the rear tyres rotating at different rates and tried to straighten up, locking the brakes and scaring the sh-t out of the misses and the kids. This happened on a family trip to Coromandel, the TC was switched off about 10 km out of Thames.
Change the factory tyres for decent AT or MT tyres and theyre sweet

I like the 2wd/Awd/4wd selectable system in theory but only available in the top spec one.
I know a few people with company ones and no complaints from them, they seam to be one of the more reliable ones but dont have all the electonic bells and whistles and flasher interior of the rangers hiluxes etc.

I was seriously looking at new 2wd hilux/triton recently and by the time you put a towbar/canopy/nudgebar/floormats on em there is not much between them and the price has risen significantly!

Mine's up to 45,000km now and due a new set of tyres. I got the GLS model with rubber interior mats, love how easy it is to clean.
Scary how much confidence you can get offroad with the traction control, even with highway tyres, have jumped out of the cab a few times and slid flat on my ass. @tetawa the new model is 12 month servicing so a lot better than the old one every 6 months. Mine comes back from a service driving like it came out of the dealership, way more responsive and better fuel economy.
How do I service it myself to get the same effect between services?
Only downsides I had are the lightweight panels dent easy, old school metal FM aerial lasted a month, factory tyres look too small but gearing is too high once you increase tyre size.
My biggest criticism is that they can't carry their rated 960kg payload safely, rear end sags way too much. I'm still arguing with Mitsubishi on that one after trying to put 900kg of fert on the back

we have a 2010 model which the wife uses as a daily driver.
had to fit a bullbar and LED bar light, next she wanted air horns, then a reversing camera and monitor.
then the fun started, replaced the stereo, fitted new speakers throughout inc component speakers in the front doors. still not happy i had to build a subwoofer box and fit it and an amp to drive it.
then she wanted internal canopy lights and mag wheels with decent tyres.
next time she is going to get a bloody car !!!!
