2021 Hilux headlights

Hi can you up grade the bulbs on a 2021 sr5 Hilux or is it better to put a light bar on I'm sick off out driving the lights on back country roads the main roads with reflective makers are fine with the existing lights but when you get on the back country roads when lights are on high it feels like they are still on dip lol I say it every winter I need to do something about the lights lol I got a price for a light bar & fitting from Toyota last year when i got a service in winter they wanted just over $1000 to do it at the time I didn't want to spend that much so looking at options & open to ideas & as I'm a fencing contractor around Wanganui I'm driving narrow winding roads with lots deer on them so $1000 on been able to see is probably better then been with out vehicle lol so time not do something

I just put an in grill light bar in my 23 hilux. Massive difference.
Stedi lightbar brackets and wiring loom. Plug and play. Was just under $700 I think.
NZ off-roader was who I got it through

Check the bulbs first. You might be able to buy a couple of plus something bulbs.
Also look at a relay loom if you do that make sure yiu are getting full power at the bulbs as well as possibly saving the switch on the steering wheel stalk.
Older hiluxes had a relatively low rated switch and any extra power could fry it.
A new model might have a relay fitted already

Yeah I feel you on this one - all the new model utes I've driven have really disappointed me for head lights. The PX Ranger I have has been good for this, the headlight and driving light combo that came out from factory on this model is perfectly useable without needing to be modified in any way. Everything else needs almost 1K extra thrown at it!

I would be looking to get a decent one fitted as concealed as possible (in grill is good) as my thoughts on it is one stone chip in the wrong place and you buy a replacement fitting maybe sooner, maybe later. Also, definitely running a separate fused supply on a relay driven off the existing loom (as little modification as possible to the vehicle's existing setup). Some brands/models even a minor splice in will trigger the headlight alarms and other fun events - even if you can do it I'd be hanging the lightbar where I want it, running the bulk of the wiring and leaving a pro to do the final tie in so that if it all turns to custard you get the option of taking it back and jumping up and down!

Wait to you drive the standard hilux, The head lights are rubbish
Stedi do the in grill set up and another one on a external bar
Need option is nudge bar set up

Get it in writing from your insurance provider that they will provide cover if you have modified the lighting setup in anyway from factory. Was just reading a horror story today about a guy who had to battle his insurance company for 8 months after crashing his ute (total write off) and they kept trying to dance around the fact it had a lightbar fitted although it had passed wof with it on.

I ran 90/100's in my 1990 24 volt safari and in two years the h4 socket the globe plugs into had melted...

A 24v 100 watt device draws 4.17 amps while a 12v 100 watt device draws 8.33 amps, there must have been a high resistance situation in your light sockets somewhere
