    4wd rim width - Hilux

Looking to upgrade the rims on my 22 SR5 hilux. From my reading and a previous thread here, the stock rims are 7.5” wide and p30 offset. Im after more width to push the outside of the wheel in line with the outside of the truck as the stock wheels are a pretty narrow wheel base. I’m thinking a 0 offset should put them where I want however most after market alloy rims seem to be 9” wide. I feel like this might be too much. I run 265x70 r17 tyres. Anyone else been down a similar road? I’m thinking a 8” or 8.5” wide rim will fit my needs better but they seem to be a lot harder to find in alloys.

Google search "will they fit" it's a handy tool for working out different offsets and wheel sizes

Ended up with a set of 17x9” rims in p12 offset recommended in store. Being fitted with a new set of Kenda Klever RTs in 265/70 r17 tomorrow.

Very happy with the outcome. Pretty much exactly what I wanted. Truck feels a bit more stable on the road with the wider wheelbase to account for the lift now too. Happy days.

Will do. I had issues on my last set of tyres with wear on the inside despite regular wheel alignments. I think the wheel alignments I was getting didn’t really work with the lift too well until I raised it as an issue and they changed it. As a side note, Mag and Turbo Palmerston North have been top knotch to deal with. Can definitely recommend

Depending how your luck runs the lift at the front might take the thing up to or even straight past the limits of the standard alignment adjustment devices. Only way to know is to try it and see, and one of the telltales is the wear pattern on the front boots. If you aren't lucky after you've got the lift done you might need to spring for aftermarket swing arms, and then your CVs, and then, and then, and then... Some makes and models are a lot more forgiving than others, I didn't get away with much on my ranger with the rear and fitting heavier weight leafs. Had to fit a 20mm lift at the front to get it back into the alignment adjustment range.

I've heard a set of tyre/wheel weight scales can help here, position them centrally then at either edge of the tyre and see if the weight is evenly distributed. Often with the utes on double wishbone front ends will show a distinct difference in weight distribution and it usually doesn't show on the laser measurements. Another point of issue is the tyre angles going to the pack when the wheel is not straight ahead but turned either direction and the suspension is compressed - as the wishbones move up with the longer wishbone on the bottom the wheel responds by tipping in at the top and the result is increased wear on the inside of the tyre. In backyard terms anyway - the fancy description takes a few more paragraphs and uses some big arse words...

If you google it in Aussie there's a lot of people hunting Mazda and Isuzu with the current model BT50/Dmax for this issue especially when the vehicle is loaded.

How do you find the RT tyres so far?
They are new to me as i was always a MT or AT on my trucks....

I have also bought a set of RT's to put on my triton when i get around to it, I like the idea of a little more off road than an AT but not as gnarly as a MT tyre.
