4wd Ute <25k

Looking for a ute to provide to farm manager for general errands, taking consultant around the farm etc and some limited personal use. Would do around 20,000kms/year. Limited to about $25k

Few 2006-2012 ish Hilux in that price range but getting up there in Kms and after mine spat the internals of its gearbox all over the road at 260,000 im once bitten twice shy.

Actually ran a couple of them when we were in Canterbury. I don't get the whole hilux thing to be honest, people spend tonnes keeping them going for years and years and then tell stories about how they last forever etc. It seems there's some kind of subconscious thing that tells people they're worth spending money on so guys just keep them going, A courier or bounty of the same vintage cracks it's head and "it's a piece of shit and off it goes to the wreckers, yet anything with a 1kz in it does the same thing (and believe me they do it...) and people are happy to throw another 5k at them to keep them going. We never had engine troubles with our ones but every wof they needed a decent amount of money spent on items other than consumables

I'll get flamed no doubt but the mq tritons rate as one of the most reliable vehicles out there.
If it was my money I would be looking for a low k Triton or Dmax.

The only good thing about the Toyota tax is it's universally accepted, people continuing to pay stupid money for them means they will continue fixing them up forever.
A mate bought a 100 series LC, paid over $30k for a vehicle that should be under $20k, you'd think he was mad to do so but after a couple of years he can probably sell it for the same price and get his money back.

Farmer we used to help do hay up in northland ran a fleet of Ssang Yong Actyons, now called the Rino.

Most had upwards of 250k kms and he reckoned they were bullet proof for a no frills workhorse for around $30k new.
Didn’t baby them either, spent their life pulling machinery and diesel tankers.

I've got a mate who's a stock agent and has a Rexton it's 2 years old and done over 200,000 and heaps of that on Otago gravel roads and he reckons you just poke some diesel in it and change the oil every 10,000 and it's never had a problem

I hired a Photon ute, was pretty late model.
Hire company guy spoke highly of it, said it had given no issues despite high KMs.

I can't say I was impressed by the performance but the Cummins diesel is meant to be pretty reliable.
On the other hand has a family member that works on a lot of Cummins powered Chinese trucks. Said the engines are great but the rest of the truck leaves a lot to be desired.
Haven't heard good things about Chinese quad bikes either.

Would probably steer clear of Chinese vehicles if it were me.
