    '85 Landcruiser - Any good?

Hey guys am looking at a new hunting wagon and have the chance to buy an old cruiser. Done ~250k, its the mid-length wheel base version (BJ73 is it?), Non-turbo 3B. Couldn't see any rust around the sills or window seals. They want about $5.5K which I thought was pretty reasonable. Has okay tires on it and a PTO winch. Not modified in any way, not even a snorkel. Same owner for last 9 years...

Anyway, anything I should look out for? You think the price is okay? What is mileage like on these engines?

    Cheers,

Not that I could see but don't know all the nooks and carnies on a 'cruiser. Where should I be looking?

Look for rust in the usual spots, floor pan back of guards sills etc.

3b is virtually bullet proof .

Check all oils for any sign of water or rust and levels. If its been even half way looked after it should be sweet.

Take 4.5k in cash when you go to get it, make sure you flick the bucks like a pack of cards while negotiating and walk away if it doesn't come together. You'll get it

Sounds like you should get it Wildman.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

You guys know if you can put a non-pto gearbox in to replace a pto version if it goes? The current one has a slight noise apparently but "should" last according to my mechanic. Only other issues are a few chips in the windscreen, a few worn bushes, and a bit of surface rust on the A-pillars which will sand out if need be...

I think so. The mechanic said if the gearbox went you would have a hard time finding a replacement and even that might not fit. I could do away with the pto if it meant I still had a truck to drive. But as he said the gearbox shouldnt break in the near future unless I got into club type driving...
