I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

The old Triton swims the mighty Rakaia on the way in it was deeper on the way out.
Shocking Update the Triton need new rear brake shoes after owning it for twelve years, might have got more if I always drove it with the hand brake off
I've got the twin of that ute but a v6 petrol , after almost 280000km apart from regular maintenance I've replaced the radiator and one coil. My brother has a diesel the same year as mine, he got almost 400000 km out the original motor.
2003 Mitsubishi Triton TD Dcab GLS 4WD $12,690 today, seems our $15,000 ute was a great deal in 2008 or they hold their value !

They're actually a pretty good truck. Downsides are their gearboxes - made of warmed up butter. Bearings are pathetically small. And people towing in 5th destroys hem very quickly.
Diffs are actualy pretty tough. LSD's I would personally rate better than a Hilux. Quite a few being used in race cars now as Hilux are just too expensive and need constant work or upgrades.
Like anything mechanical, if its been looked after correctly it'll last ages.
Whatever you do get it properly checked out by someone that knows the particular brand well, and make sure the service history is good.
If they can provide receipts of what they've had done, you can be pretty sure they've been lookign after it properly. If a mate of a mate has been doing it, run.

another triton issue on some models is the 4-5 downshift fails. ok on 3-4 so check this several times on a test drive
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
@cambo
I can fess up.
Yes I towed in 5th with a big trailer load of firewood.
Yes the gear box shat itself. Yes it cost me 4k for a recondition and new clutch etc. Yes it was self inflicted(I didnt know 5th was overdrive).
On a side note mines going in tomorrow to get a wheel bearing replaced.
Whilst my mechanic is at it.
Think I may get the EGR removed cheers folks!!!
Yeah same with cat convertors. Got to be there now days to keep Greta happy.
Lots of places do/did the removals or bypass. We even did it at my work. Cut them open, smashed out the internals and re welded them back together. Then wired in bypass ECU.
Still looks factory but all internals gone.
Can't do any of that now.

I have one sitting on the drive. Stuffed injector on cylinder 4, worn suspension bushes, center hanger bearing might as well not be there. BUT, even though her indoors wants it gone, I cant face getting rid of it.
It's got me to some pretty rough spots, been a proper workhorse, was a farm hack for some time.
They will never win a beauty contest, but they will do what a ute is supposed to do, and will do it well.
