    Yeah series 3.

To be honest it's all about maintenance or the lack of that determines wether or not your gonna have problems.

Iv owned a lot of vehicles - mostly Toyotas when it comes to trucks.

When I write a list for each vehicle, the make, the year , what went wrong, what I had to fix in the first year of ownership.
It may come as a surprise... Here's a some of the newer mixed in with the older-you get the idea.

    Landrover defender 2014

First year problems did 28,000ks in that time.

Brake pedal stuck down after hard braking - minor.

    Rear brake lights bulbs minor.

1988 Toyota hilux double cab diesel

    Gearbox seals- minor

    Manifold leaks- minor

    Top end let go- major

Big end went after the top was fixed- major.

Syncros- in gear box - major.

Had to re wire heater fan and new controller unit.- minor ish.

    1974 landrover (2.25 petrol)

Manifold leaking- main gasket replaced. Minor ish

Frost plugs leaking coolant - replaced. minor ish

    Indicator switch- minor

    1987 land cruiser BJ74 (3b) diesel.

Front hubs fell apart- rebuilt. Minor ish

Manifold , cracked so replaced. Minor ish

Alternater - worn out - replaced minor ish.

Front diff let go- rebuilt - major.

1983 series III landrover (petrol 2.25

Brakes worn out- replaced shoes and drums. Minor- ish

Syncro into 3rd stuffed- new box installed. Major.

Clutch slave cylinder - leaking - minor.

Valve seals - on my to do list. Minor.

Make 2001 hilux double cab 4x4 5l diesel.

    Problems that required fixing-

    Hand brake crapped out- minor

Cam belt tensioner snapped off - major.

Rear diff - bearings let go and it exploded - major

Heater fan stopped working - relatively minor ish

    1989 land cruiser bj70 3b

Power steering unit - rebuilt. Major.

    Front diff- rebuilt. Major.

    Gearbox seals. Minor.

Clutch master cylinder- leaking- replaced- minor.

This is just a few but sometimes it's good to see actual facts written down.

I think the important thing to note is that series landrovers are OLD so yip your gonna have to replace stuff... Just like anything else of that vintage.

But they are a neat vehicle to keep on the rd.

lights in the wings, windscreen mount is not a plate welded on the side of the firewall and a little bit of the deluxe trim on the bottom of the wing.... They might not be the strongest but they are pretty simple to work on. LWB brakes are a very worth while upgrade for a 88in

    Cool
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
