    Anyone Run Used Veggie Oil?

Been looking for a hunting/fishing vehicle that isn't a pick-up and I came across this Pajero with a used vegetable oil conversion kit installed and I was wondering if anyone could comment on running these? I'd be using diesel most of the time but it's an interesting feature that I'm curious to hear some opinions on.

I've got a mate who runs refined (filtered and centrifuged) auto transmission fluid in a Nissan turbo. Apparently viscosity is a key issue. If he is using other oils he blends it with diesel.

dunno what that system involves but vege oil needs lots of filtering and de watering.

I have access to approximately 70 litres of canola oil per week, an old hot water tank for de-watering and a busted oil furnace that I could rip the fuel pump and filter off of.

If I let the oil settle and siphon the good stuff into the de-watering barrel before filtering it after a day on the heat I would probably have a pretty clean product. Dunno about adjusting acidity though... have to look that one up.

My mates been running his last two 2.7Nissans on vegi oil for 4/5 yrs now . He's got a good set up hot water cylinder and pumps and filters .
You need pre heaters in your truck and valves to open and close the system , so you can start it .
He had no problem that I'm aware of , but do homework as not all diesel trucks will cope with the oil .

My mate is tight as ! All up it costs him 30 cents a ltr . You are right it's a lot of work and if you get it wrong it could cost you an engine , not something I'd bother with

I'm pretty keen on the mitsy as a diesel, I think the veg oil option would just be an added bonus since I can grab the oil on my way to work and stack it in the shed until I feel like processing a barrel.

I'm going to inquire as to how he has been treating his veg oil and how long he has been running it. If his process checks out and he has been running like that for a few years then it could be time for a test drive. Price is right anyways.

If it is do-able the beauty with the oil is that you can have a fry-up and then drive up the Hill...

Too true EB!!! The only real reservation I have at the moment is availability of spare parts. Pajeros aren't exactly something you see everyday in my neck of zee woods.

They don't make good hunting trucks , as they smell like fish and chips when running . Can make you very hungry when in the back country
