    Awning tent recommendations

Looking at setting my 80 series up for camping with family, my young girls wouldn't like a rooftop tent so looking at awning tents, curious about peoples experiences with various options

We use Adventure King swags due to storage size, If room allowed I would be looking into either the Oztrail fast frame series or the Coleman Instant Up range.

Oztents look like a pretty good option for a fast setup standalone tent (i.e. not connected to the vehicle) but they're large, heavy (a wee bloke like you might struggle to lift it on the roof rack) and very expensive

Once you have had Adventurekings self destruct in the wind a couple of times the Oztents won't seem quite so expensive

My roof rack is 10 cm above the tip of my fingers. Getting a kayak up there is a mission, let alone a blardy tent.

Yes, from what I have seen of the kings one, is that there are four walls, and an awning over the top. It isn't a sealed tent.

Yes it is - floor, 4 walls and roof with mesh inner. The awning adds an extra layer above the roof of the tent. Check the vids online.

If you want to go completely overboard, checkout the kiwi camping Falcon 9 air tent. Three rooms, well sorted with pockets etc, but not the kind of tent you use for quick overnight stops
