It all depends on age any type, and remember the new key will need to be coded to the vehicle. On some vehicles this can only be done by the dealer! Not every joe mechanic has a scan tool that can do this.

any good locksmith can download all the data and cut the blank
Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Went in to dealership today and was slightly surprised, locksmiths have quoted $180-$220 for a cloned copy, mazda will hook car up to computer and code a new key for $160.

Locksmith in West Auckland arranged for mine to be done, all for less than $80, last year. I went to the locksmith on Great North Road in Henderson and he contacted the bloke who did the job.
Ford wanted $600 for the same thing!

Just make sure you don't need this for a BMW or Audi. Think they charge around $1200 for new keys.
