    diesel Engine chips

Was quickly browsing a Australian 4wd mag in a waiting room the other day . The mag was promoting a chip for most new utes . Do these chips perform as good as they promote ? . Are the modern engines lagging because of emissions ? . Anyone chipped there truck ?

A mate of mine did it back in 2007 to his auto transmission sheep shagger and it certainly seemed to improve its power and fuel consumption😆

Dunno enough about them to say if it will improve the more modern versions.

There are good chips, and there are absolute crap that will destroy your engines.
The good ones cost plenty at specialist shops and actually work, the cheap crap flogged on Trade Me will turn your nice new engine into a large paper weight quickly.

DPChip and Steinbauer are a couple of the good ones.
We see plenty of trucks coming through work that have been chipped. Lots unfortunately are the cheap crap that cause no end of dramas.

Warranty wise, it will be on a case by case basis from my experience.

Some can be plugged in and unplugged very easily.

Mine cost quite a bit I thought at the time & may or may not have been fitted by a dealership.

It made a big difference, it certainly hauls arse now.

My stock 2011 Hilux was sitting on 9.4 litres per 100ks average, my replacement 2014 was sitting on 8.4 until winter & idling it to demist it, now its on 8.5.

So it looks like more power for less fuel party on

I had the same results with the Monaro & hope to with the GT 86

Toyota frig around themselves. I remove the DPFs in a lot of three litre hi aces for them. They get the little emulator kits off trademe and fit them lol and they're the dealership

Yep, just do it. done 3 hilux's and 2 200 series cruisuers and a couple v8 Holden's. In the manual hilux it's like having another gear a mate has his auto running through a switch which is really good for feeling the difference.
The dealers hear have been fine with the warranty side but then again I haven't had to put them to task about it yet (touch wood).

Chipping is very big in the UK you can save a lot on fuel and still pass the emission test, some of the best are the one,s, where they remap your original chip after working out how your engine is running, cost about $700

I'm following this with interest. I have an old '96 4.2 TD landcruiser. Any ideas what it might cost me to chip, or if it's worth it (got 300k on the clock)
