You have to remove the manifold and get the carbon/soot out manually

Loose Carbon stuck between a valve and seat is nasty $$$$$$ on a Diesel engine if you expect the engine to digest that gunk

After cleaning disconnect the egr valve or run the engine breather into a catch can, either will stop the reinfestation of that black power robbing goop
