I have a 3l v6 mitsy triton for a work vehicle and a 3turbo diesil hilux for my personal vehicle
I much prefer the diesel for towing my boat, diesels are louder more tractory, better in water which is a biggy for me, slower top end gruntyer down low,
id hate to pay for my petrol in my work truck,
I've got a Hilux petrol, my wife has a Hilux diesel.
Both about same HP, but hers is heaps better for towing, and mine sucks gas, especially with a trailer. I get about 400 km per tank (probably closer to 300 with a trailer) she gets over 650 km (doesn't change much when towing).
Wish I'd bought a diesel, but they were neatly double the price (used).
I have had both a petrol and diesel surf and found the petrol was good on open road but was geared too high for any kind of hill start in D while towing. I personally loved the diesel, left the country, so sold it:worst mistake ever. For work i drive a diesel hiace 3l d4d,i carry a shitload of steel in it and it doesnt care. Its a bit noisy on the highway doing 100.mostly because its naked internally so sound echoes in it. But i still prefer diesel and have personally found the cost is similar if not cheaper for diesel. Im not sure i would want a hilux now though as there shape seems more and more impractical with each model. Good luck in your hunt!

About a month ago my 12 year old boy went to the Dio school hall party, it was an American theme night for 12 - 13 year olds so I thought I would rattle the cage a little. I dropped him off in the Corvette, I've never seen so many 12 year old girls get dizzy & star struck when my boy got out of the car.
Fark my 460 was more like 6 liters/km I am sure of it :D

Wouldn't stop me VC :) went for a ride in a modified one, 550 wheel hp and I forget how much torque but it was mack truck kind of stuff. Unreal for a very civil diesel engine

Chev Duramax is an 04 (340HP) and over last 100000 km I have an average of 13.1 liters, towing, cold weather warm etc. per 100km, the old 6.5 is aursum, cause some how the fuel from the tidy tank leaks :P into the main tank,
Driving my diesel bighorn in NZ feels like a slug compaired to the Duramax.
One thing that makes me laugh is the rated towing capacities. The Hiace and Hilux share the same chassis, motor, gearbox, ... Yet the lighter Hilux has a greater towing capacity; does not compute!Quote:
