We were the only ones going west to east today, and the only ones carrying gear. There’s a bloody steep uphill zigzag climb to the plateau near Okaihau. But the batteries lasted well and we smoked it.

Haha, I just realised I never posted the 2nd days pix. If anyone is interested... from Kaikohe through Kawakawa to Opua where we’d left the car, finished right by the Ferry so drive over to Russel and spent the night at The Duke before heading home. Great ride, Horeke side in particular on account of the west coast aspects and history.

    Awesome.
Photos obviously taken on an iPhone, because iPhone photos on this forum are always the wrong way up (like all of mine!)

Bloody peasants without Apple products looking for an E bike, but can nearly buy an E car for the same dollars? Looks like a nice bit of R+R

Some of the simple cruiser models like the yellow one that Genesis or one of the power companies was using on their adverts are probably pretty cheap. But go to a partial or full suspension bike with gears, integrated lights, crank mounted motor rather than hub and the price gets up there for sure. These Smartmotion x-City’s were about 3500 each. Being a Mercury customer knocked 250 off each.

    Cool report ishoot 10s.

I have a Merida light trail bike, it is a power assist in that you have to pedal otherwise you stop. I love it. It has got me biking whereas if i had to hop on an ordinary sweat wheel .. well i wouldnt. One consideration to take into account if you are thinking of buying an e bike.. i had plans of biking to a local swimming pool which is 20km away but i have to go on an open speed limit road.. you have no idea how many dickheads in cars think its fun to pass you as close as they can and hopefully not hit you. It put me off open road biking and as a consequence i could have of gone for a slightly more trail type bike but overall i am wrapt to have my e bike.

Yeah I am starting to look at ebikes as well, I was against them but after a ride on one I had to eat humble pie. Lots of fun and really adds a new dimension to biking trails.
