Every bloody year they do this!

Service time for the wife's car, look what I discovered under the engine cover.

The worst one was about 12yrs ago, when the nest actually caught fire. I've had two built on exhaust manifolds. Luckily, I carry a small fire extinguisher.

Every single spring we get the same thing. We also get heaps of rat problems in engines, and of course the one that died inside the dashboard. I have to tie rat baits into the engine bays.

This car is a daily driver, which means this damn bird must have been very fast and/or tenacious (or on night shift!). It'll be another blackbird.

When I worked at the sawmill , we had a starling that would build a nest in the mast of the lift, chased the machine all over the yard with grass and stuff in its beak.

Starlings are great sport once they start nesting

Sit in a deck chair with the 20 gauge
They just can resist coming back even though they sort of know you are there

Its a shame we pulled down the old house on the farm
Many a hot spring afternoon I would sit in the shade and pick them off
They just have to sit and skite when they come back to the nest and I also quite enjoyed taking chunks off the house also

PS This is maybe not a good option if you are one of those poor buggers who lives in town !

Lost a tractor and feet spreader to a starling a couple of years ago, tractor had been checked for nests the day before (had a few previous close calls) but the buggers are quick. I saw a bird fly put from under my Terrano about 20 years ago, big nest in the engine bay. About two weeks ago i noticed a blackbirds building a nest on top of the gas continuous water heater.

Yep, I'm hearing you. I hate the damn things. You should see the mess they make when nesting in aircraft.

    Bastard birds.

The buggers will build another nest in less than 2 hours if they are set on that spot. Had it in the tractor a few years ago checked first yep a nest. Pulled it out and then got another urgent job. Came back later, thers grass poking out yep another nest. Leave the bonnet up now
