    Ferry discounts

Not 100 percent sure this belongs here, but it is transport related.
I head south (drive) at least twice a year. I have often been told I should join this or that to get a reasonable discount on ferry services.
I did look at the motor caravan association discount, which is reasonable but you have to actually be in the camper to qualify.
Both ferrys are fairly canny in telling you exactly what discounts they offer.
I was told the kennel club is not bad,but once again they dont say exactly what it is.
Anyone here get a discount worth looking at?
    Cheers.

Max I have seen is 10%. But it costs far more than the saved 10% to belong to the organisations that give you access to that saving. You certainly need to do your math.

Can't remember % but NZDA discount isn't bad, assuming you're a member already. Better than Gold Card discount anyway.

Lol exactly the same with loyalty cards, but people seem to persist with them. the same story with driving across town to get a couple cents less per liter for petrol. You are spending your saving driving there

i'm guessing you are not an NZDA member.
mind you again you would need to be doing a number of crossings to get your fees back. but don't forget full membership also includes insurance for shooting/hunting.

If you have a farmlands card and book using it it's 15% off bluebridge.

NZDA gives access to a lot of discounts at a lot of places, some of which are crap and you'll never ever use others are pretty good. Noel Leeming, JB Hifi are quite useful. Bunnings appears to be a discount in name only, it's more a means to skip the checkout queue and go straight to the service desk and use the discount for no $$ off!

I think they run off the CSC platform of discounts, but as far as the ferry its Interislander and I think it works out a little more than 10% from what I saw last night but it depends on the service you are looking at. Trying to dummy book using the discount (I was interested to see what it was for 1 Adult and one ute as I might be needing to do it shortly) it looked like everything was basically $250, then doing the same with no discount code entered the prices were quite different depending on the time and the ship anything from $270 to over $320. So if you booked ferry crossings twice a year the potential is to save the cost of your NZDA subscription just in the savings from those two ferry crossings.

The JB Hifi one is cost+10%+gst, so depending on what you are looking at and the clearance or specials on at the time it could be really good. The recent 12v car charger I got was $52 with 20% off so down to $41 prior to the discount being applied, after it was $28.50. So the NZDA one if you use it to it's potential (and I have been bad for this as 1) I didn't join for the discounts more so the range and 2) I've had other discounts I used more but don't have access to now having changed circumstances), it stands to save you more than it costs plus you get access to the insurance options, other services and benefits.

Interislander discount with NZDA is 20 %. I use it every time I cross the Strait.

    Ok thanks.
I might look at NZDA,I was thinking about it anyhow.
It would appear there is a local branch now at least.

I thought that too, 20%. But when I entered the discount on one booking webpage and then went standard price on the other side by side the NZDA page reduced everything to a flat price of $249 ute and 1 person one way but the other page had a lot of different prices for the same voyage times on the same ships... So I dunno it beats me.

If you know anyone working for Kiwirail, you can be their +1 and get a 75% discount. You probably have to ask them very nicely though.

Lower NI or Upper SI staff probably wouldn’t be worth asking, but anyone more than half an island away could well have this view. @No.3 what did you do there.
