    Flatdeck alterations

wondering if anyones altered a flatdeck off one ute to another ? looks fairly easy so situation is one deck is double cab already no sides will go straight on my bounty for $1000 next option is space cab deck off first gen ranger or first of the bt50s has timber carry rack built in at the rear (can be removed) and has the drop down sides for $750, both decks are olearly for palmy built the $750 deck looks better made as its off a newer truck maybe they tweaked there build a little. they are both galv but going to paint black anyways to match my bullbar etc, question is is it worth the fluffing around for a saving off 250 plus i get sides and a timber rack and i wouldn't mind having the double cab deck 100mm longer than standard ? anyone been down this path ? cheers

Probably worth the hassle if you can weld or have a good mate that'll weld things for you for nothing/box of beers. You'll most likely have to move the mounts. Not a biggie. We replaced the steel deck that was on an Aussie import Landcruiser with a spare galv/timber one we had sitting on our old 40 series Landcruiser.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

yeah thought about this but the time spent getting materials nutting out design etc and the steel wont be galv think altering an existing one is more affordable and time saving

Take care to thoroughly rust proof all new steel and welds. Be generous. Once it’s on you want peace of mind

mate has one on his hilux that's been on probably 3 of them, At least one had different chassis mounts etc. little bit of dicking around.
The only thing that might feck you up is the width if its to wide etc.

picked it up today looks really good, now to chop her up....but whats the limit you can have over your axle ? this table seem to say 4m from center of axle but thats a hell of a long way out ? only wanna go about 2m max most flat decks are around 1800ish i believe, wouldnt mind going a wee bit more than standard
