Full Electric LDV ute

I got my new work Ute on Tuesday, a fully electric LDV double cab, I have done 500 kms in it since I picked it up in Auckland.First impressions are ok, drives good, has a real range a tad over 300kms, I charged it at just under the 300 kms as I was heading out the back of Huntly and didn’t want to take the risk. The green ethos fits the company I work for, hence the electric Ute.
Has all the features you would expect for a budget Ute, has apple car play, but no GPS .
I charged it today for free on a fast charger, went from 30% to 94% charged in 35 minutes.
Will take a bit of getting used to, but enjoying it so far.

well at least you will be able to store a small generator on the back of it for those "oh shite" moments.....

Certainly requires thinking about charging places before getting out of town,

Have you tried towing with it, be interesting to see what that does to the range.

I will give it a go towing over the holidays but it’s only rated to tow 1 tonne, I believe it will probably halve the range,

In all honesty it will be interesting having someone on here to give their account of how a Battery ute works out

It will be, I would have one if it could do what I need it to. Its annoying that we as users and workers of the outdoors are penalised to help pay for townies to drive shopping cart sized EV's

Not cheap are they even after jacindas rebate.

Call it what it is, a "battery powered ute" just like a battery powered drill, which go flat at the worst possibly time. That's why I tend to use my corded drills mostly and also why I'm buying a new petrol powered line trimmer for Xmas instead of a battery operated trimmer. I'd hate to think what a EV car owners monthly power bill would be.

I use battery powered tools now, all Makita with 4 spare batteries, bugger the corded variety, I could electrocute myself:D

I saw it reviewed in an auto mag a year or so ago. Its a ute in looks only. Even a poorly maintained gravel road has the potential to do catastrophic damage to the drive train: The big ol electric motor hung down to the bottom of a conventional diff in the photos I saw. And no guards or skid plates. Just the motor:P

Definitely wouldn't make it up the McCauley river ��

As long as it is capable of performing reliably those things some of us expect our utes / 4x4's to do and has good range fully loaded I would have no problem owning one.
By that I mean off road / river crossing etc............................not as mums round town remuwara tractor dropping kids at soccer or going to lunch

What’s the dollars? Two rangers and a Mitsi?

6 bucks a charge for my work colleagues BYD atto 3 and that gets 350km range with some let over. he charges his ford transit phev for free at most sites as the corporates want to encourage electric vehicle's

AT THE MOMENT.....watch that dissapear once they have the numbers they want or the demand for power goes through roof...
already it has been seen overseas the power simply isnt there if too many are charged at once.... car free days may well come back again.

I know this Ute isn’t what most of us expect from a ute, my personal vehicle is a 2002 hilux 4Wd drive double cab, this is a townies ute, the ground clearance is not great, it’s 2 wd and I am not keen to take it on rough tracks, because the electric motor does seem to be quite low where the diff would be. I will keep updating as I get more miles on it.
This is a company ute, not mine, but I am trying to keep an open mind and give a fair review on what I think about the vehicle.

My father use to own a 1956 daimiler majestic.Buitifull full 6 seater gas gusler all of 3.5 ton.Cruise at 100mph in comfort as you watched the fuel gauge slowly going down.

I know that the responses on here are 8 to 1 negativity and frankly they can all go boil their fat heads

What does it feel like to drive? Given that you have experience of a regular double cab do you find it comes into corners / braking different?

I think most people on this forum either have a company ute or personal ute (got both) but I'm curious to learn about what might be our future, would love to hear from anyone on the forum driving the new hydrogen trucks too

As captain of the debating team for the negative, I disagree strongly. It is a trend, maybe it could even be called a fad. The world (let alone this country) does not have the electricity generation capacity to meet the demand of this folly and by the OP’s statement that a 64% charge took 35 minutes, the world cannot sustain the impact caused by the loss of productivity that these short range vehicles will create. The future lays with Hydrogen technology and if the climate change brigade are correct about rising sea levels then there will be plenty of water from which to take the hydrogen. Run the gas guzzlers, warm the planet, melt the ice cap and fuel the Hydrogen vehicles. Now that is an exercise in sustainability. :P

Its only a temporary fill-in until my fully electric super Ford 4x4 arrives in 2050.
There will be no power shortages because the nuclear power station (on the edge of Auckland will be a good place for it) will be finished by then.

My old patrol only done 3000ks in the last 4 months,hunting ks mostly.Diesel down to nearly $2 a litre.Il just wait till my 400kw hydro nissen patrol arrives.
