Fair enough - looking at this 2wd ute setup am aware it'll be a complete structural redesign before it could become a usable 4x4 option. This electric LDV could not safely be taken off tarmac whereas other petrol/diesel 2wd utes could do ok on farm roads, easy streams etc
The technology for 4wd is developing - Landrover now have an electric 4wd, as do Ford/GM in the US. Early days - will take 5-10 to get it right but they will get there.

And the whole idea of EV's being green is so flawed it's not funny. When you look at the holistic picture, they are no better for the environment, in fact as we know it today, they are actually worse.

They aren't, they just don't generate their pollution at the vehicle like ICE. Their pollution to point of sale appears higher and possible service lifespan also appears at best half of ICE.
A lot of that is ICE tech is a lot more mature, but we cannot build as many EV as we need do to battery material limitations which leads the question of how we replace the batteries we currently have when they crap out. The power source for ICE is a lot more easily repaired and will continue to be so as you can get parts. Bit hard to repair a battery when you can't get parts, and I know of a couple of PHEV vehicles that gave been fully replaced under warranty do to early battery failure and no replacement available. This is a side of the debate I don't see talked about, shorter service life of the 'cleaner' vehicle requiring earlier disposal and replacement.
End result is vehicles aren't green despite the opinions, a necessary evil and reducing useage regardless of type is the option.

The Greenies also don't like discuss how these materials are mined. All for saving the planet and all but at who's cost and I'm not talking financially . Everyone is quick to point out the child/slave labour in China for manufacturing etc to the coffee beans picked in Africa.

EV's are as reliable as the electricity used to recharge them. Look at Europe and North America where they've been suffering from energy crisis since they tried to go green in some areas, then got worse after the Ukraine kicked off and even more worse now they in a winter blast where they are about to have rolling blackouts. In some places theres not enough charging stations so people have to limit their driving because they can only charge at home. Hydrogen combustion engines are the way to go.
Just an update, I have now done 1500 kms in the Ute, getting more used to it, because I work around the north waikato area I have used the fast charges at countdown Huntly, never had to wait, and apart from that I charge from a 3 pin plug at the depot.
Ute drives well, handles great with all the weight down low between the chassis rails,
Hate to break it to you, but cobalt is used in oil refining and has been for a very long time. De-sulphurisation (sp?). So its been a problem long before EVs came on the scene.Quote:

-it worked in normal ICE vehicles with minor tuning so you did not have to replace every motor in the worlds fleet.
-It used existing fuel distribution logistics (Tankers and fuel stations, bowsers etc)
-It could be made anywhere that there was a supply of water, and electricity to make it. Thus removing the need for large ships carrying it around the world- eliminates chance of oil spill disasters etc and allows those ships to be converted into container shipping.
He had proof of concept but was unable to scale up to large volume production with the technology he had developed at that stage. I do not know what happened to it. Whether it succeeded (doubtful) or failed. But again it is an example of the fact that the solution has simply not yet been found. It is there, we just need to work it out....
