    Getting a Farm bike road registered ???

    Does anyone happen to know what's involved in getting a modern farm bike (think the mighty Suzuki TF125 Mud bug!) in basically new condition with lights, indicators, road tyres, horn etc road registered ?

    Its pretty much more expensive than the bike. Its cheaper to buy one that is already road registered.

    There was a way to get a dirt bike road registered, for an event, so say for a week - 10 days. I remember people had to do it when the ISDE was raced here in Taupo mid 00's.

    Go the A rego / atv way first dun it a few times with quads not continuous either so cheaper then get a wof and just change to a g rego but then its cont rego and a wof before each renewal Dont go to vtnz but go to nzvt etc instead way more helpful . If its just for hunting etc stick with a reg you can legally ride on road for a short distance , there is a limit but if in gizzy you shoud be ok out of town imoh rules may have changed .

    talk to suzuki dealer..pretty sure there will be cow cockies who get it done from new to cover thy arse while on roadsides etc

    Just move to South Auckland, they don't bother with any of that stuff riding them on the road

    Yes, its a sign of the times that skills are not seen as more important than technology.     No, same requirements around ABS etc still stand. It's based on date first registered, not manufactured

    Thanks Guys, I figured that would be the case and a reflection of the world we live in.......Imagine rocking up to VTNZ on the mud bug, yep shes got ABS !!!!

    Im not claiming to know it all but I do know a bit about this kind of thing, so here it goes:

    -Farm bikes are exempt from the ABS/Combined brake requirements
    -If it has a VIN plate/ADR plate or you have a SOC for that bike then you're half way there (I dont believe all TF's had plates)
    -There is a bit of mucking around, but if you find a motorcycle entry inspector that has the time to sort it then it can be done (few and far bewteen unfortunately)

    Yes, it's got Antiquated Braking System.

    Bikes made prior to 1990 are also exempt from the bullshit ABS stuff, so depending on how old your mudbug is you may not have issues,
    pretty sure you'll still need a brake declaration and some sort of proof of ownership.

    Thanks guys.....righto this was for my young fella BTW who is on the lookout for a cheapish bike.......has since found another option, much more modern (KLX250) but with a 'Lapsed Rego' was recently all on the road with a plate etc. I have phoned VTNZ who were pretty useless,........ anyone know what's involved getting get a bike re-vinned ? @GDMP and @makka ?

    I had a KLX250 revinned about a year ago, after the rego lapsed. It cost a bit over $500 in Christchurch. The bike was in factory condition, without modifications of any sort.

    Revin is pretty straightforward, you just need proof of ownership and proof of previous rego which the vin number should cover.
    Not all VTNZ/VINZ/AA sites will do bike revin's so you just need to find the right one, is your young fella in gisborne?
