GM patent application for a tow-assist device

    Interesting concept https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...-device-patent

Wondering if this will actually be a useful occassional use solution for low tow rating hybrids when need to tow boats, heavy firewood etc?
Highlander tow rating dropped now that it's hybrid. Seems like the hybrid Tritons will be limited to 1500kg. No word yet on hybrid Hilux.
It could add power. It could add braking. But would it provide stability? So many questions! My guess is it'll never eventuate........

Interesting concept. Limited towing rating is going to limit how many people end up going the hybrid/EV way for future utes and SUV's vs sticking with combustion engines.

I can see the fun people are going to have trying to reverse with the additional pivot point this concept appears to create. Imagine sitting down and watching that for the day at a boat ramp or holiday park!

A decent V8 and a steering wheel and you could do away with the tow car and put your passengers in the caravan or boat

V8’s are very green. They run on recycled dinosaurs.

According to the page, it is suggested they could use the unit and a handle to reverse it like a shopping cart..... All in all seems like asking for a whole bucket of trouble...Softwware glitch and it tries to out accelerate the car ? Now that would be interesting....

They just want to lodge a patent to stop others doing it, more money in suing someone.
