I think it's the direct injection 4JX1 that is the problem... but someone prove me wrong. I believe the 4JG2 is the older and better motor.

Yip, read it again and that is what I said. Just between you and me there is a 4JX1 sitting on my from lawn that I must shift on shortly. Just need to replace an ABS sensor.

Don't worry I wont tell anyone.

Took one for a drive once and they did seem quite grunty/smooth in comparison to the earlier models. BUT... everyone seems to think their evil so I don't want to trust one.

4jx1 is uber shite- It's the one that eats oil seals for breakfast.
I have a diesel Wizard, 96 and no issues what so ever. runs the 4jg2 engine and all good!

haha a manual one? You would just about need truck equipment to do that. Done a Escudo and Landrover. Neither were fun like a car.

Recently bought a CRV myself. Bit light for towing a trailer all the time. It's ok if it's just two adults n two kids

I have no arguments with the older Isuzu motor. It is after all a truck motor like the others of the same age. It seems that it's the new fangled direct injection 4JX1 motor that's a pig.

Yea I know I've driven one on rough bush tracks as it was more intended for can't think how 300+ horsepower would of helped low range 1st gear kind of stuff depends what you want it for my escudo is a bit of a slug on the roads but is perfect for what I use it for off road

Had an Escudo and LOVED it but they struggle with trailers full of building material and anything other than a small boat (under 4 mtr).

They needed a 2 L motor and they would have been perfect.

People have done an sr20 swap in them. Very reliable motor, lots of parts and reasonably priced and not too hard to certify.
