Hidden gem #2 - Go the mighty mid 50's Dodge

I remember this trip, last big load the old Dodge did, I would of been 5'ish so late 1970's with Mum n Dad. We took a load of wool to Welly from Gladstone ( woolstore was probably Picton ? ) she was a walking speed trip up the Remutaka's

This pic was taken just over the summit on the Wellywood side

Have similar photo's of my grandfathers old work dodge with a hedge trimmer device bolted to the front of it to the tune of about 50ft - with a little flag hanging off the end. Horrendous to-ing and fro-ing with the local constabulary about it, but as it technically complied with the overlength rules... Corners must have been fun times though. Tough vehicles, wouldn't get away with it with these modern computer limited p.o.s.

Hessian wool packs, hanks of bale twine, bag needles & manual hand ratchet Donald wool press. I can see it all now, as childhood memories. Love the pics Phil

I grew up hanging off the end of a hand ratchet on a Donald’s wool press

Was often growled for making the bales too tight

Pressed the pins a few times too
