I was a Toyota man through and through - Hilux, Surf, 1986 Landcruiser that I still have as farm only. I ended up buying a D-Max at the recommendation of Chris Trundle back in 2018 and I can say that it does the trick. Had 3 recalls to fix issues - front guard rusting - replaced; Rear bushes - replaced and last of all the turbo was whining and Isuzu replaced with a new Turbo and gave me a 5 year warranty on the new Turbo unit. Absolutely no complaints. Unlike other utes I looked at pretty much everything is made by Isuzu and they were primarily a truck company so it should have a solid pedigree. I think Toyotas today are quite flimsy and they have lost the plot for rugged vehicles. My Isuzu is basic inside which is what I like. I was offered a really good trade in last year on a new D-Max but turned it down because they have now gone up market as well and they have all those annoying electronic warning devices that are totally out of place and useless on a farm. IMO anyway.
