    Holden Colorado advice wanted

    Any one have real world advice in regards to colorados?
    Looking at upgrading the old truck to something a bit more modern and the colorados seem excellent value for money. Looking at around the 2012 era 4x4 . They seem to be around 20 k ish to buy with 200k on the clock. Don't want to spend more than 25k and most other wagons are 35k to get a similar spec. It's either that or the 3.2 pajeros which have a pretty tough reputation from what I can see.

    how many auto electricians/mechanics does it take to change a lightbulb??????
    its NOT a DIY job....just got one done for mate it cost $80

    Check crossmember under radiator /intercooler prone to bad rust , warrant issue and hard to spot if not looking for it .

    I went through this process 2 years ago looking at what ute to buy and ended up buying a 2014 colorado lt manual. The auto ones have a terrible problem with the torque converters crapping out all the time but the manual trans has been good. 2014 and 15 have the better manual Trans and interior. The face-lift 2016 and up have afew issues with the touch screens not working.
    All colorados suffer from the high stop light leaking and getting all the carpets wet.
    Over all I'm pretty happy with my colorado. It's been bloody reliable and has plenty of power.
    There's a face book page " holden colorado owners " it has alot of good info on there

    The earlier ones around that era had issues with the engines consuming oil, heaps of them were getting replaced under warranty.

    I saw a up spec 2021 ZL7 with 20k km on the clock go for $38k a few months back, I'm guessing people are shy of them now they aren't being made anymore.

    I’m pretty sure 2013 was the year that they had a bad batch of engines that used oil.

    Google it and it should come up straight away. Other then that year they seem like great utes

    There is a model (or possibly the isuzubut not both) which I think is maybe 2017-18, that have turbo issues.
    Only lasted 30000ks.
    Guy I worked with at Macreas had one and was on its 3rd since he bought it from New.
    Got replaced under warranty but they basically told him to flick it before that ran out.
    Just an absolute shit batch of turbos for that part number

    mate is staying at our place at moment,he owns a holden colorado...it had left front headlight out...it isnt a DIY to replace it..the mechanic got it out..and then couldnt get replacement in without removing lens... cost was $80

    They from my experience anyway don't like being modded in any way. Upsize one tyre size, and the result was popping the intercooler hose off the turbo end even with the fancy connected clip and lockwire on the bastard... On standard tyres it never did it only when the owner got the flash new wheels. Go figure.

    I see what MD is saying , however unfortunately unless you have a pre 95landcruiser (at the very latest) most things these days rely on electrics and yes they do
    fail modern ones less due to water ingress etc but still happend
    Im no auto electrician but have nutted out some ridiculous electrical issues to the point I nearly licked a pair of hot jumper cables.

    Colorados are good trucks had a few latest were 2018 2019. Personally as far as engines go the 3.0l colorectal will do you for years if thats what you are after.
    But I have been very very happy with the 2.8 duramax, heaps of torque ( best in class bar the 3.0 v6 amarok).

    These days Id be more worried about DPF issues on second hand diesels and the torque converters on the auto colorados.
    Definately get any dpfs checked as last time i checked it was an easy 4-7k for a new one and that was across a few of my vehicles at the time.

    Wow that's a bugger my old Discovery 1 needed the headlights taken out and drained of water every 6mths when wof due, took 5mins each side.

    Many of the modern utes now require you to remove the headlight to change the bulb. Just not enough room to get in behind them with mutton hands. Usually just two or three bolts that are often well hidden but once you've done it once, it's a piece of cake.

    That's crying out for a modification or two - a little drain hole in the bottom corner or edge! Never had the joy of having to change a Colorado headlight bulb, know someone who worked for a dealer before GM threw the brand into the bin - they never really enjoyed them from what I can gather although to be fair they don't sing the praises of being a mechanic. I am not naming any names here haha!
