Any one done this?, I have a XT400 and the tank has rust and a couple of pin holes. Gone online and had a nosey, just wondering if any one had done it and some advise please.

Have done several. Best product I've found and never had any issues is the "POR 15' tank sealing kits. Comes with a rust neutralizer, cleaner and sealer. Costs around $70 depending where you get it from.
And if you can see rust scale in the tank, grab some of the sharp edged road chip stones off the side of the road, wash them, stick them in the tank with hot soapy water and start tumbling and shaking to loosen the flakes off. Wash it out and then use the tank kit. Takes about 10min depending how bad so a beer or too helps on a hot day!
When I started my panelbeating apprenticeship the foreman was repairing bike tanks on the side.
He would put it over a car exhaust for a short time before gas welding them
I would say it was a bit of trial and error at the start
You can solder them aswell
Don't weld it if I am around. Particularly if there is an emptyish 44gal drum and a broom handy to hit it with. :psychotic:
unless your 100% sure the tank has no lingering fumes welding brazing and gas fired soldering is out. leaves you with traditional soldering with an iron (not a piddly arse sparkys one but one a radiator guy would use). use 60/40 lead . handy hint chalk the repair all up after and fill with water , look for any wet spots last thing you want is for fuel to push out your fresh paint
Handy andy wash out tank then exhaust fumes form the car exhaust for 30 min.Good to go weld it however you want.
