Just don't buy a diesel Hilux pre-2008 and expect it to be bullet proof. You will have to do seats and seal service every 45k ($400) and oil pickup insp.
2010 onwards has 10k service interval.

I moved from a Surf to a Petrol Prado, simply because given the higher Rego & higher servicing costs for Diesel, the Petrol model will be $1200 cheaper per annum even factoring in MPG.
