Interesting outcome today. We drove to Taupo and back, 187km each way, to pick someone up and bring them back here. I thought I’d be a good sport and go along for the ride. The Wife drove (with her infamous right foot, made of pure Pb). No stops on either leg, two adults there, three adults back plus luggage, car was deliberately left running for the 2-3 minutes at the house in Taupo.
Fuel consumption over the 374km was 4.6 L/100km. Quite a few decent foot-flat truck overtakes on the passing lanes, not grandma driving by any stretch. No cruise control used, just sensible observation of the speed limit and a Steady Eddy 90-95km/h on the back track along the Kaimais.
4.6 is quite a lot lower than I was expecting, especially with ‘Er Indoors behind the wheel. Pretty amazed at what a 2.0L petrol can do these days.
Apologies for the shit photo!
Just...say...the...word
what car/year is that @Flyblown ?
2022 Corolla 2.0L petrol

My 2006 corolla averages just on 7l per hundy.
It does get driven like it's stolen some days!
My bro has a late model corolla hybrid and that would only just be getting 4.6 from memory!
I might have to upgrade to a later model but petrol heading down so no panic!

We're cut from the same cloth. I was over in the States and caught up with an ex-employee. He took me to see his consulting rooms in his Prius and drove slower than a snail on Mogadon. It was averaging 49.X mpg and he was gonna get it to 50, do or die. Did my head in.
Both my vehicles are drinkers but you don't own things like that to putt them around.
My old man's car is a 2018 Mitsi ASX, it seems to do about 7.8 or 7.9L/100Km around town but down around the just below 6 or so open road. The wife's car is a 2021 Mitsi Outlander, so virtually the same platform as the ASX but will usually do about 1L/100Km less. I often wonder how accurate the inbuilt gauge setup is seeing as those two cars are virtually the same platform yet the Outlander weighs a fair bit more...
Did 140km today, went down to the Waikato to look at a job, purring along at 11.8, I didn't like that much so by the time I got back home the average was 12.8. Nothing past me so that's good.
Had it in trackmode there and back, fcuk she sounds nice
Have a Holden cruze 2.0l diesel from new 14 yrs old now on 170k its lifetime average is 6.4l per 100k just got back from a weekend trip away was better than that over 800km. Amazed at what your corolla gets .
Interesting read. I got the missus a GWM Haval H6 Ultra Hybrid at Christmas. She needed a new vehicle and the bank was doing 0% interest loans for EVs/Hybrids. So we could buy the regular petrol only car and pay interest, or the fancy car and no interest.
The H6 does about 6l/100km which I think is reasonable for a mid-sized SUV - definitely less than the smaller ASX was doing. It is absolutely packed with features (automation and safety), which initially I was quite skeptical of - but am now converted.
I guess what I'd say is the biggest change for me when I drive it is the way the electric drive works. I think I've got this right, the petrol engine acts as a generator and does not directly drive the wheels. The wheels are driven exclusively by the electric engine. This makes the driving experience quite a change. So when you're cruising around the burbs at less than 60km/h it's general super quiet on battery only, using no gas. When you put your foot down the thing accelerates hard and smooth - there are no go gear changes. On a typical motorway on ramp you can easily hit 140 without realizing it.
I am really happy with the H6, the economy is great, the features are amazing - and the new hybrid drive is a pleasure to drive. Oh, and no RUC's
yet..they will come soon enough
