There's several companies in NZ that do it.
McCulloughs in Parnell Auckland are good, I bought a car in the UK over the net and had McCulloughs arrange all the paperwork. Pretty simple really.
Mainfreight have a dept that does it as well.
    Just google import cars nz

If you are looking at a new left hand drive car I think customs issue 500 permits a year but they have to be special / souped up cars not run of the mill models.

If your after a 20+ years old car its easy. But if they are built after 1990 they have to comply with the frontal impact law change there. I've done research into a 70's muscle car and the two main thing are you have to watch out for is rust and that you can prove ownership of the car. Try find your own sympathetic certifier and it will make life easier.
