    Interpretation of this Road Sign

The sign below throughout Selwyn and likely eleswhere? What's the purpose of allowing heavy vehicles over 3500kg but not under? And ever seen this enforced?? I must have been bored to take a pic!

At night would just drive past it as it isn't exactly a Stop sign/Give Way. And if you rounded the corner, it would just flash by. The signs about 10 metres away from the turn off. Selwyn Council wasting rate payers $$ ..again. And what - are the police on the prowl on these semi rural roads?? Funny thing is that i and other mates that work night shift drive down these roads on our way to and from work.! Right back to something more constructive...

Only time I've seen them is in areas where a factory or some industry has a lot of truck movements over night.

It's not a bad theory, never seen it survive contact with reality.

The theory is that the sign gives police the justification to act on boy racers there at night without reasonable excuse in an industrial area
Trucks and white work utes with blokes wearing check shirts are fine

Chipped Galants with 3" tailpipes are not
