    KLX450r & RMX450z?

Thoughts on subject bikes? Old school tech, unchanged since their release in 2008, much the same as the RMZ450x with the exception of fuel injection.

They seem to get favorable reviews and seem to get good mileage and hours with minimal engine work.

    Anyone owned them?

I raced the Rmx in the 2009- 2010 national Enduro they were pretty good bikes at the time. their biggest downfall was their weight, and when wide open, they got really bad head shake.
Yes not as highly strung as the mx bikes of the time, but did have a fairly average to work on oil filter set up.

Cheers, yes they are a bit heavier than the equivalent 2 stroke or MX variant.

A bit of back ground to the original post, returning to the sport after nearly 10years. Was a fairly reasonable intermediate rider, Taupo 4hr, sweep riding the A+ loops on boundary and Tussock buster etc.

Predominantly rode 200cc 2 strokes and 250 fours/old school thumpers.

Seems like the power delivery shouldn't be too bad.

I just sold my Rmx. Great bike, but quite a stiff chassis, suspension compared with the euro Enduro bikes. Flame out was a bit of a problem too. Great power though. I'd still have it if we didn't need overseas trip funds.

The KLX I have no experience on, however I have ridden the 2008 KXF, which was what they were based on. My memory of that bike was a more compliant ride than my Rmx, but didn't turn as well. Both brands are reasonably reliable, easy to get parts. The Kawi my have a bigger tank too?

Went with the KLX450R in the end, found a good example at a sharp price. Bigger tank is definitely an advantage. First impressions are that it's quite punchy down low, but tails off at the mid range, still in the process of dialing in the suspension. Berm buster and 2hr natural terrain event at Taumarunui will test the fitness and skills.

MX circuit the other side of the combined sports field at yuru?

The KLX has a stirling reputation. Can't really go wrong with them. Just change the oil frequently and they will go and go and go.

I know a guy who runs these with the snow tracks on the rear and ski up front. Changes the oil every second customer. And they are ripping at 90% power all day long doing that sort of carry on.

That's the one, unfortunately it's been neglected for a long time, quads have been through and put in huge ruts, needs alot of work, which we plan to slowly get onto.
