Those issues only apply to the earlier model Terrano as far as I know, not the 95-onwards R50 model. I bought a 96 3.2 Terrano for $5k a few months back, 240k on it and a few minor jobs to keep it shipshape (discovered after buying that the previous owner neglected servicing a bit) but other than that it seems good. Decent grunt, good compromise between on-road and off-road driving. Had thought about a Safari or Cruiser but figured most of my driving is on the road anyway.

Avoid the 3.0td Terranos though, that ZD30 motor is a bit of a grenade.
