    LandCruiser windows intermittently stop working

The windows on my series 80 will intermittently stop working. They will work fine for ages, then You’re driving along, Maybe lower a window and everything is dead. No windows will go up or down. Leave them alone for say 30 minutes, and they’re working again!

Yes they’re a little slow and I’ve seen talk of replacing rubbers, but when they’re fine, they’re fine!

Is there some remedial work I need to do to prevent this reoccurring?

    Thanks in advance
    Si

    New switches?
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

The little contact points inside the switch assemblys grow green oxide off the copper after 20-30 odd years of faultless work. I have just pulled the switches out of my 25 year old patrol, sluiced contact cleaner through them and given them a shot of CRC electric stuff and reassembled. All working fine now. Cheaper than new switches (if you can find them).

My 80 doesn't have this problem.... But you need long arms to wind the passengers one down

    Car / automobile fault tracing?

I just had the same problem. Strangely if i open up the offending drivers door the window would go up and down flawlessly.

Perhaps there is a auto electrician on here who can give a opinion?

There’s a huge multi plug just inside the door pillar inside the vehicle

This allows a door to be removed fully by pulling the multi plug

Pull it apart and put it back together again a few times to clean the terminals

That and clean the switch plugs and contacts

I avoid using mine in the winter, they really struggle in the cold
