One of the genuinely important vehicles of the 20th century. Learned to drive in one and used it offroad for a time. Plenty of character but maintenance and breakages were another matter...

Had them in the mine. Mechanicals very expensive to repair, and they needed regular repair. Likable vehicles though except for the useless 6 cylinder versions we had (original Land Rover engines). Best of the fleet was a long wheel base Safari but we weren’t allowed “access” to that. Totally slayed by the first models of the Land Cruisers that replaced all the Land Rovers on site.

They were real good when you didn't have any other choices.

Marginally useful, underpowered, unreliable, and I suspect were the basis for the military term 'soft-skinned vehicle'! They were completely overshadowed by the Toyota Landcruiser, and never were as good as the old Willys Jeep that they replaced. Still, they do have a following....

I suppose at least it was a better military vehicle than the Austin Champ....

The Austin Gypsy didn't seem too bad.

Elton John went to the tattooist and said: “I want a Rolls Royce tattooed on my penis.”

The tattooist said; “You'd be better off with a Land Rover mate, it won't get stuck in the sh*t.”
