Thread: LED Light Bars - confused help

Ok I want to add a light bar to my mitsy outlander for extra light.
I can mount front bumper or under roof rack.

So I start googling and there are 100’s of styles,makes etc

So I am confused about
1. What brands to buy and what not?
2. Brightness rating ? - some are rated at 1lux at a set distance etc, how ever I want some spread and some spot.but ultimately when I turn the light on I want to go WOW

So if you have a recommendation to brand and where to shop, please suggest? Thanks

Look up the brand Stedi. Supposed to be up there in quality.

the ones from GC work bloody well and are waterproof, i have only repaired about 5 of them compared to 1300 plus spotlights. supercheap ones are leaky but there spotlights are good ( just fitted 2 to a d-max)

@Sika stag google Steadi lights. Couple places sell them in NZ. Am happy with mine. Come with wiring harness and if you a latter model truck you can get a piggy back plug.

Stedi, great white are some of your better branded lights.

I run stedi, as well as a boat marine brand called Korr . Out perform any cheap pos. Absolutely love them

Whatever you fit, it will survive best where it isn't getting thwacked by stones and crap and vibrated to bits. Care in installation helps a lot with vibration management.

Next one is not mounting them where you get any bounce back off towards you off vehicle parts like front bar pipework. At night it can be blinding and dangerous as F, but often times you'll get through WOF with it which I think should be an absolute no. Another I've run into is a crap job tapping into the vehicle's loom causing all sorts of weird failures, errors and limp mode (irony being not one of them related to the lighting). Those piggyback plugs sound like a pretty good idea although I've not used them myself, the other good plan is running everything off the battery only cutting into the loom under the dash for switching purposes. That just minimises failures and any possible issue with overloading parts of the loom (which these days are sized for the factory gear only, they just don't give you anything spare capacity wise).

It's often a little enlightening no pun intended to get the lights out and night and rig them up to run off a battery. That way you can see the spread etc at the height you plan to run them - quite often what you get isn't whats on the box in terms of spread patterns and beam widths.

32". Goes well. $40 odd dollars.
Two mates have them as well and go equally as well.
All mounted on quad-bikes.

On the advice of @gonetropo I bought a GC one and it is working fine.
It's mounted on my front bumper and I've driven in some pretty heavy down pours with no sign of leaks.
Not forded a river though.
On a Mitsi Pajero Sport FWIW

Rigid industries if you've got a bit of cash and want something discreet. I have a 10 inch lightbar that's been with me for the last ten years and three different cars now, it cranks out as much light as the massive 40 inch look-at-my-huge-lightbar jobbies people get off trademe or ebay. Have a look at snakeracing.com.au for them.

Style will depend on what terrain your driving. If your just wanting light for off road up and down hills etc.. then cheap ones will work fine. If your wanting it for on road you will be probably wanting the light to punch long distance (further than 500m) then you will need to look at more expensive lights. search laser light bars for up to 1 lux at like 2Km !!

Issue with light bar on my jetboat is it can create a bit of glare with the water and even the reflection off the bow/hull I found. So has another Jtboater
I reckon you need LED spotlights not the Bar version on Jetboat
