So that explains why my tearing of something under my shoulder blade isn't an accident it's an injury haha. Nice to know.

How’s this for a tale of woe.

I bought a 2009 Suzuki Escudo with 140k on the clock from a dealer in Nelson. They gave it a mechanical look over when they got it, and I paid to have a pre purchase inspection done. All looked good.

The car was delivered to Chch where my father in law took possession and was going to deliver it to me in Timaru.
He made it about 2/3 of the way when there was a loud bang, and complete loss of power. Gave the old guy a hell of a fright!

We had the car towed back to Ashburton to be looked at by the local garage.

Apparently one CV joint seized causing the drive shaft to pop out, which in turn damaged the auto trans beyond repair.

I am extremely grateful that I bought full mechanical breakdown insurance with the car, not just hoping the insurance company doesn’t try to wriggle out of it, though I don’t see how the possibly could!

I haven’t even seen the car yet!

@Delphus I remember reading in the AA magazine back in the 1980's about a LTD Ford that had been taken in for a WOF. The "inspector" tested the handbrake by engaging it, selecting "D" and stomping on the gas. The torque twisted the driveshaft like a corkscrew shortening it so that the trans spat out the splined coupling, the 351 then over-revved and did in some valves before Ol' Mate managed to lift his boot...

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.
