Got one in at the moment for a head. Little take off to overflow broke off, didn't check and he cooked it. Could have done that to anything I guess though. 4wd is dumb unless you actually need it, it's just more shit to go wrong otherwise. My machinist was cracking up today telling us about one thing these are great for: there are two versions, 2.0 and 2.3 right, main difference is one has a dipstick external, one goes through head etc. The head gaskets are basically interchangeable, except one way you get it back together and the dipstick goes "donk" 6 inches down bahahaha too classic.

We've got a 2.3 wagon version and it's great, just a good reliable car. I've replaced the front ball joints but the its up at 240k.

I haven't heard anything bad about them.

We run the Mazda 6s as company cars, I have done half a million kms in 5 of them over the past 8 years, haven't had any major issues, although to be fair I never really have them for more than a year and a half as I do too much mileage.

Current one is 16months old and has 100k on it now.
I like 4wd for a road car, just got the wife a 4wd passat, makes a huge difference in grip and control especially on metal roads and helps for launching the boat! No experience of theMazda AWD though.

Our 2004 2.0 Lt one didn't need a spanner on it (apart from scheduled servicing) until around 270K I think, it's just clocked 320K.
We've had a really good run out of it accepting that things are now getting tired on it.

We have an 02 atenza 2.3 and its up 260K now. Good cars, we had to replace one of the engine mounts which sounds like a common fault on the older ones, other than that just doing the front control arms now. I would definately get another one. The MPS versions are pretty nice.

Those upper engine mounts are really common, but cheap, plentiful, and a 10 minute job to change.

    Lower control arms, same thing.
