I had one for 6 years as a daily driver, as other have said pretty thirsty but reliable. Theres some part of the engine management system thats prone to going and there's not much point in getting a second hand replacement because you'll likely have the same issue in the near future are they are getting pretty old.
They were actually not bad on the road but I'd say a surf would be a far better offroad option especially if you were looking to upgrade its suspension etc because I doubt there's a huge range of aftermarket available.
