    Mclay B 1800

    Hey fellas,
How'd many out here have experience with the older mclay boats? Specifically the b1800. They are built around 1990-94 I think.
The reason I ask is the is one on trade me at present without an outboard.
And my old boat here has a bit of damage which is a bigger job than I realised to fix.

Also wondering what size motor these can handle?

    Cheers kyle

Why don't you ring McLay and ask. Ask to speak to Griff, he's been there since Adam wore a fig leaf and he's a good bugger too.

I had the B1600 as my first boat and ran a 90hp on it a great boat there are a couple of B1800 and B2000 still around up here most run a 135 or 150 on the 1800.
Yes they are getting old and most need a repaint.
If it has carpet glued to the floor as mine did, rip it up as you will find holes from the salt that doesn't get washed away. And check all the welds on the floor.

Now that's an idea I didn't think of.

Ok thanks. Maybe the 85hp johnson might be a bit underpowered then. From memory it is stripped back already.
It's in Auckland which is a bit of a problem. But I if it's worth while I will drive up to bring it back

I guess it depends on where you are fishing we do a lot of bar crossings with dive gear and you need the power but if you are on lakes or inshore it may be fine.
I think a bigger motor not working as hard is better than a smaller one getting trashed.

    Totally agree.
    Thanks for your input 25/08IMP
Unfortunately they didn't respond to me until they sold it.
    Now to find something else.
Or carry on repairing the plylite fisherman
