Be a high likelihood that the oring is a metric and that oring you tried is imperial hence the thicker section which is too tight. Try a metric oring that fits for outside diameter and it should be the ducks nuts.

Re the lack of stock - expect more of this, I've struck it before with single-distributor stuff when there is an unexpected run on stock or a hold up in supply shipments for whatever reason.
