Thread: needing some new 4x4 tyres

Hi the time has come for me to put some new rubber on the truck. There are Fedral Cougars MT265 75 16 on it now.
I'd like to put something similar on, I've had a look at a few. Been looking at a set of Kenda Klevar RT601 are the any good, or what would be a good option that won't burst the bank

These are my sons and he wants them gone (so do I !) so he’s happy to drop price.

My inlaws put a set of kendas r/t on there ute about the same time I put a set of hankook at2s. They got 45k out of them before they needed replacing, mine are at 60k and expecting to see 80-90k out of them

You can get those Federals in that size for about $350 each thru offroading now.

I've been running Hankook RT01's and RT02's on my truck for the past 25 years including a modified Range Rover club 4wheeling. IMHO they are the best bang for your buck for offroad, and on road performance from a MT.

Check out the Yokohama Geolander, I've been very impressed with mine for cost, noise, grip and wear.

Desert Hawk XMT only available in limited sizes. My old Surf still wears them in 32" & have been great, now son has it still clocking up the kms.
Have Yoko Geolander MT on my Safari & liking them too. Both noisey on road but that's what you get for grip.

I have had coopers for years and moved over to yokohama geolanders, They are great rubber.
Ive also had the desert hawks but had one bad scare in the wet and wouldnt get em again.

+1 for Geolanders, mine are ATs and particularly good in snow, not really tried in serious mud.

I have had a great run out of the Geolanders on my small 4wd. But not quite as good a run as I got from my Kumho KL71 MT ....

I've gt 33" Yokohama geolandar M/T and they are much better than my previous BFG mudders. Very quiet on road, great off road and have very aggressive sidewall lugs. Got them on sale on Hyper drive, shipped to one of their installers and have done 60k with zero issues. I highly recommend the Yoko Geo's.

Maxxis Razr MTs have been very good. I use them myself, and have fitted many sets to customers vehicles.

If your doing more on road than off road maybe look at the Maxxis Razr AT.

The Maxxis 764 MT is another good tyre for offroad use but will wear quickly if you do a lot of road driving.

More tyre manufacturers coming out with the RTs which are a cross between ATs and MTs.
Haven't fitted any myself or had any experience with them yet though sorry.

Maxxis is one of the most expensive products out now and the Razr M/T is more like an aggressive A/T.
The Achilles isn't available in NZ anymore and TBH is one of the most scary M/T tyres that I have ever driven on.
The Yokohama G003 is a seriously good M/T tyre all around.
The Federal goes really good and if you have been happy with it......
