    New Hilux ad

    Honestly, makes me feel emotional...

    https://m.facebook.com/watch/?v=4293...53301&_rdr

I reckon this ad is the closest thing possible to my gang down on the farm, without it actually being the gang. Every single one of them drives a Hilux, pretty much every vintage. We’ve even got a Walt. And an Eyebrows.

    So this got me thinking.

Who on the forum has got the oldest serviceable, operating Hilux in use today?

No cheating. Photo to prove it. Better still a video.

All other poxy no hoper makes and models, go home. You’re not invited.

Doesn’t have to be road legal. We have a 1991 single cab flat deck 2.8 diesel (3L) that is allegedly never used on a public road and certainly never ever on bitumen... in use daily doing all sorts of unpleasant jobs and never misses a beat. Unfortunately I don’t have a photograph of it here but I will do soon.

Just trying to win the best selling Ute off the Ranger. They had it for 20 odd year till the Ford Ranger took it off them. I guess they got a bit complacent

I just knew all the jealous saddos would come crawling out the woodwork. You can see - feel even - the envy.

Out of interest @7mmwsm, how much of a backhander do you slip the WOF guy every 6 months for your half million clicks Rodeo? $50? A couple of slabs? Don’t say nothing, we all know that can’t be true!

I got given one of those for a day a few months ago, as a courtesy car when our magnificent Gen 8 Hilux went in for its service... I nearly spat the dummy! And then, just as we’re leaving, the guy says hey, please don’t take it off road, like, you know, don’t take it on the farm, cos, well, you know, like, well, er, it’s, it’s, er... WHAT, MAN! SPIT IT OUT! ...it’s er, well this is broken and that doesn’t work and the other isn’t even there any more.

I have the text message I sent the boss here:

Before my current hilux, I had a rodeo that had 470,000km on it when I sold it to the brother in-law.

It’s all good, I’m yanking your chain mate. Was probably a bit harsh! Just know that the three 2020 Gen 8 Hilux on the farm, plus the three 2017 Gen 8 before those (they’re already on their second go round) have between them about 700,000km of Western Ruapehu hill country under their belts. And not a single warranty issue whatsoever. If you could see what these vehicles tow... And, these guys are proper rough cunts as they like to tell anyone who cares to ask.

So I don’t get the comments like yours about new Hilux cos if you don’t own one, don’t work one, then an objective opinion must be pretty hard to come by, eh? Just like my Rodeo comments. So yeah I guess the idea of the thread was to get into some Hilux history and find some cool old Hilux trucks amongst out members, instead of another pissing contest. But that was daft, was never going to happen. My fault, was a silly comment to make in the beginning. Enjoy your Rodeo.

My 89 4x4 2.8 DC still going every day.
    Pretty good reliability wise.
In saying that the clutch actuation hydraulics are playing up today.
Wouldn't hesitate to drive from end of the country to the other.
Took for a warrant last week and failed on rear handbrake cable.
That arrived today so whack it in and good to go.
As long as I'm not towing anything it gets along at a good clip.
Will post a photo when I remember.
