Cheers guys. A bit worried about getting an invoice from Toyota for "no fault found". Hopefully Cambo will add to the discussion - he has been very helpful in the past.

Hilux don't run a CVT they run a proper auto.
My money is on a faulty torque converter that can't make up its mind if it should be locked or slipping.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
Wouldnt they replace it if its faulty? They can do whatever they want with it after that surely.
I've owned 6 Hilux's but all were manuals so no expert on auto's - but as you said I thought it was the torque converter doing funny things, cheers.
Possible sensor or valving issue I would have thought?
It may just need the AT memory reset.
From memory there could be a ecu recalibration that could be carried out.
Will need to diagnose it and go from there.
It's still under new vehicle warranty so take advantage of that. Get it checked out.
Toyota warranty is very good and they want their customers happy above all else.

2023 Hilux transmission shudder at 50kph update for those that are interested. Toyota NZ told local agent to "reflash" the ecu. This made no difference what's so ever. Toyota NZ then said to change the wheels to a different size. This seemed like a complete waste of time to me and I could tell by his body language that the local agent service manager possibly thought the same. Amazingly it seems to have made a difference - no harsh shudder at low speeds - but early days though. Original tyres were 265/65 R17 - they fitted Prado black mags/tyres 265/60 R18. I have compared the two tyres on a tyre comparison/calculator website and the 265/60 R18 is 0.3% less in circumference. Interestingly when I was out mtbing tonight I saw another new Hilux that had these same 18" wheels instead of the factory 17" ones. I was certain the torque converter was f----d.
It seems like there is a software/tuning issue as we now have a number of vehicles doing a similar thing in a few different ways, including the SMs own drive Lux.
TNZ are getting us to try things, but not really finding a solution as of yet.
I can assure you @Camel things are happening behind the scenes and our SM is trying to get a solution.

Colorados have a tourqe coverter problem. It feels like a trans shudder
Late update on transmission shudder at 50 kph : TNZ insisted on swapping out the wheels (which were an after market ugly 5 spoke 17" mag) - 18" SR5 Cruiser wheels were fitted and problem has gone away. Drives perfectly now. Ilam Toyota were great to deal with - they didn't even sell the vehicle (I think it came from Botany Toyota in Auckland).
Gad it's all good for you now. Wouldn't have thought it was the wheels as my first pick to be honest.
I'd prefer a driveshaft to what mines done... Failing the output voltage regulator in the powertrain control module (runs the engine sensors basically). Got a wrecker part to replace it, which should be a fairly simple process to code the new unit into the chassis/ecu/pats systems (pats being antitheft crap). Alas, the new $12K scan tool requires internet to confirm the identity and ensure nothing dodgy is going on with the immobiliser recode. Good in theory, except where I am 6km out of Tauranga we don't have good enough internet coverage/data to convince the scan tool's website all is cosher. Gotta wait for another guy to get some time to come up and do the recode of the security system, with his older non-data gear. Once thats done and the new module have the right chassis number in it and the key fobs are recoded then the sparky can check everything else out and redo the injector calibration offset codes etc etc. FFS what a drama! Gimme a simple driveshaft any day.
