Reading all the dramas people are having getting modern trucks to work reliably and with longevity, I will opt for the 'pureeing' 4.2tdi every time. About two wires going to the engine, and with a bit of Macgivering I reckon it could work OK with none.
Have just ticked over 3000km towing the boat from Taupo to the bottom of the west coast and back up, exploring all sorts of 4wd tracks to get the boat into the water and out again. Crunched the numbers and the 530,000km GU Patrol is returning 12.9L/100km. Whats not to like?
I wouldnt. Even dead they are still worth good money.
Shes a good old beast alright Simon. Thats what you get when you combine ample displacement / torque with a low stress motor with huge oil pan.
Lots of lazy power with lots of clean oil = long life.
I can only hope that I do that well with my cruiser. 161k now no issues. Mine sounds better than yours though!
