Has anybody fitted a e bike kit to a mountain bike.

@ebf it went really well. I had to pedal at times going up hill but mainly to get going after going through boggy bits. Definately nothing too strenuous. On the way back out I put the deer into the saddle bags and got back to my truck in record time (all downhill) battery was reading full back at the truck although had dropped one bar after the uphill climb in. I’m wondering if the cold nights gave it a bit of a re juice? All in all happy with the way it performed for the money
Awesome man. Will be interesting to see how the battery holds up over the long run

awesome to hear it went well.....the future looks bright.
I can see a trike version being VERY handy....
Yep I’m keen to give it a go through southern access corridor in March. That should be a good test for the battery for distance
I haven't but I have looked into it. You need adequate braking, so probably hydraulic discs (although some say cable discs are more repairable if you have a problem in the back of beyond). An ebike frame is typically stronger and can take a bigger load, with stronger spokes/wheels too. So by the time you factor in the parts required, and the loss of your existing bike to the conversion...it makes more sense to buy an entry level ebike IMHO and save yourself the headache.
A guy I know has done it but what use and type of use it has had I don't know.
$800.00 was the number being talked about.
Interesting your comment on frame wheels etc and mountain bikes do get a fair hammering anyway.
E Bikes will continue to get cheaper anyway.
Thanks for the reply.
I guess if you've loaded your bike up with a pack, and you have some meat on board, you could be well over a hundred kg. I have heard of one guy coming down a hill fully laden with brakes basically glowing. The other factor is that youd probably want to out some thought into weather-sealing your bike. The kits don't come with much. You'd hate for rain to cause an electrical failure when you are 20kms up a riverbed.
Here's another option coming soon. Impressive 'claimed' range...and that seat certainly has that East European design about it, but in the end its still a bicycle.

Looks good but very expensive!
@Sika Seeker

@ebf yeah mate haven’t been on a lot of hunting trips with it lately been using my feet and helicopters but battery is still as strong as the day I got it. Will be taking it for another hunt in CNI in the next month or so
