    Outboard jet motors

Was looking at Evinrudes new outboard when I saw what looked like a outboard jet unit. Quick google showed Mercury, Yamaha have them too. Im sure Honda and other major players would have them too. Watched some vids on youtube from 2010 so though its not new its the first time I've ever seen them.

Thought I'd mention them here if no one else has heard of them.

It was me. I've got the Tohatsu 25 Jet on a pontoon tinny and it's effin' great. But I missed using my rig for duck shooting this year coz I was away in UK and EU with the missus.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

    Here's my original thread.

I went ahead and built a centre console sort of jet ski style seat arrangement and still have the floating mai-mai type camo frame that drops down over the whole boat.

They are. re emerging. I must have seen 5 or 6 lately. Dunno do they hang down under the hull. If so wouldn't a normal jet unit let you go thru shallower stuff ?

I've ended up with intake leading edge about 15mm above the keel, seems to be optimum for my hull and motor combo. Once I'm up on the step, she only needs a couple inches of water. I think a purpose jet can't be beat in terms of hull shape, but the outboard has it's place because it takes up no room in the boat.

That's the perfect reason to have one. Do they suffer from weeds as bad suppose easy to tilt and clean out ?

Weeds are a bit of an issue, reeds are not a problem, light stuff gets mulched straight through but a big clump of cress will cavitate it. The intake is only about 20x25 cm. have to tilt and reach over to pull it out of the grate.

Here's how my pontoon ended up with the centre console and seating. Lots of storage under the squabs and keeps all the weight inboard and trimmed on an even keel.
