There sure is an economy in size. Makes a 4 ton GCM SUV and boat trailer combo getting 16L/100km look mighty thirsty:wtfsmilie:
When I was in rail, 650 ton empty rake up and 2450 ton of logs return for a little under 300L of fuel if I recall - about 55 truck and trailer loads and the same thing - drift down the hill as far as you can then maintain speed. Say what you will about rail but it's one of the most efficient ways to move gear.
And about 300 litres pilfered from the fuelling shed.
Boat In tow, dive gear x 3, camping gear x 3 blokes x 3 and all the shit that goes with it so pretty loaded up Nelson to Kiakoura and back so a few steep windy hills...don't spare the horses.
Topped up to full on way back. 426km (actual traveled is more than this as running bigger tires around 5 % from memory) 46 liters to fill.
Pretty happy with that.
Speed limit in NZ is usually 100kph, 90 towing, so the Patrol is quite happy maintaining the legal speed limit.
Blowing 50+ K on a 4x4 that does 3 or so L/100km less than the old Patrol (that cost a fifth of that price) is smart money in my eye. Plus I don't need a PhD in electrickery to keep it on the road myself.
You can still buy brand new parts for them at reasonable prices
The UN still has the GQ version built for them for deployment in 3rd world countrys...cause they just work.
