A good mate of mine has a 120 series with the V6, it's very quiet and smooth to drive, heaps of power and the fuel use is proportional to driving style.
It's thirsty when towing for sure, but your not swinging into every servo you see.

So petrol isnt a deal breaker by the looks. We only tow long distances once or twice a year for camping trips and small towing trips into town and back but primarily carting the kids around and going away. Maybe I will have to sell the old hilux and get the wife a runabout for the day to day operations and short trips into town if i go down the petrol route
I have a 2008 VX V6 with 320,000k....and am very happy with it. Can run on either 91 or 95 as the computer will adjust accordingly.
I tow and go off road. (Have fitted snorkle, 2 inch lift and diff breathers...
The official fuel use is 14.2L/100k and I get 12 on the open road (not towing)...179KW so good overtaking power...
Hope this helps.
