Question for MTB fundies on here

Mrs has told me to sell her MTB. Had almost no use, single lady rider :thumbsup

    Trek 3700

    size 18 inch ?

At least 10 years old, got it before we immigrated.

Any ideas of what something like this would be worth ? Found same model on TM for $ 100...

The photo is your one? Turn the forks the right way around before you list it for sale...

Unfortunately MTBs have very low re-sale value, regardless of condition. And this model is fairly entry-level, so $100 is probably as much as you can hope for.

Probably not worth a lot at that age, see if the $100 one on TM sells easily or not and that will give you a good guideline.

Also it looks like the fork is backwards... loosen the stem on the steerer, rotate the fork 180° and tighten up the stem again.

Maybe with the forks around the right way Mrs EBF will enjoy riding it more?

@imaca I think it would need an engine of some sort

    No idea...

Will make that tomorrow's lockdown project. First job was to see if the tyres keep pressure. Had to swop a valve core from an old tube, so will pull it out again in the morning and investigate.

Probably been in that state for yonks I'll give it a test ride in both configurations and see how it affects steering, haha

I tried to sell my parents one a few months back I started at $100 and ended up at $20 just to get rid of it.
It was in great condition with very little use and a good brand.
So sorry but worth bugger all

Just to clarify, in case you don’t know much about bikes (no offence): loosen the screws on the side of the steerer, NOT the one on the top. That one should only be just tight enough to take out any play, otherwise you will crush the bearings.

No offence taken, I am more than happy to take advice on anything mechanical

Will have a good look later today and post pics of what I find before doing anything major.

@mopheadrob, all sorted As you said, two screws on opposite sides of the stem where it clamps onto the steering tube. Funnily enough it did not feel that much different riding it with the forks reversed, I expected it to change the steering geometry one way or the other.

It would make a great donor bike for an electric conversion, if you can live with V-brakes. Edit - that would make it a lot more fun to use, and may well get the Mrs back out on the trails.
