    Good work

@Dan88 i just used the code one the firewall it should be a trim code and total bodyshop in petone can make you a can for $31.50 if you cant get your paint code the take your petrol flap in and they will match it for you as factory paint can fade over time so might not match that well

not to rain on your parade but........the whole reason the clearcoat would have been peeling is a poor quality 1k clear was used on it last time. they just don't stand up to the harsh UVrays we have in NZ.
yes you saved a bucketload of money however a paintshop that would have painted it in a 2 pac solvent or water based would have given a lifetime warranty . would like to see another photo 18 months down the track after its been thru 2 summers.

job well done then(always good if you can save some money and do it yourself and you don't need a warranty if you don't spend large cos your not keeping it for the long haul) ... it would have been an old repair that failed because of cheap 1k lacquer used at the time

hmmmmm. ok. so is there a lacquer or something that can be sprayed over top or is it simpler to get it sprayed professionally?

its the product , not who applies it ........ the stuff in the spray bomb supplied would be the same !k lacquer a paint shop would use on a budget job with a kerbside warranty(what is done for car dealers who don't want to spend money) the problem is the laquer never really hardens over time it shrinks and pulls and lifts off the base coat. it may last 2 years or six months depending on how it was prepped and applied , the region can also be a factor in how long before the laquer gives out some places nature is a bit more brutal than others. but hey if the vehicles not gonna be kept for a long time then cheaper is better . bit like buying tools a tradesman will spend the money on quality cos they have to last and will get a hard working life, a handyman will go to mega and buy cheap as it wont get much use .

yeah, i plan on keeping my truck for a while. I would like to tidy some of the paintwork up but I can't really justify getting it resprayed professionally. was hoping there was a middle ground somewhere. I have no problem spending time on it, my time is free.

theres no middle ground when choosing which clear to use .....1k cheap and you can use it in your garage (where a mask) or 2k expensive and loaded with isocyanates shouldn't be used without the proper protective gear and in a sealed filtered and exhaust regulated booth in fact it shouldn't even be sold to anyone who does not have that equipment and most likely laws will change sometime soon to reflect that. cancer (notably in the brain and testicular, the other brain) and respiratory illness is high amongst spraypainters and panelbeaters who have been in the trade for a while . heard of one panelbeater , not 50 yet has a brain tumour and they are linking it to the bog (plastic filler) breathing it in , absorbing it thru the eyes . back in the day we were all worried about lead poisoning ..... walk in the park compared to whats in the products now....lead can be expelled from your system over time this new shit .is way more deadly. had a painter working for me who would suffer from withdrawal symptoms whenever he took more than a few days off , headaches and chills and shit....
